Schachter family with Rep. Gottheimer at their home.

Over 30 community leaders, as well as school and shul board presidents and leaders, gathered last week at the Bergenfield home of Bennett and Tammi Schachter to meet and hear from local Congressman Rep. Josh Gottheimer. The informal, no-solicitation evening was organized by Bennett, who invited local leadership to meet with Gottheimer and learn firsthand about what he is doing in DC on behalf of the Jewish community.

Among the issues raised and addressed by Gottheimer at the event were the need for the local Jewish community and its leaders to be more active in the political sphere. Cong. Gottheimer also discussed what he was doing personally in Congress in support of Israel, in fighting anti-Semitism, and on his efforts on tax reform that make sense for the Jewish community and the state of New Jersey.

One of the primary takeaways from the evening was a strong, well-received pitch to invite Rep. Gottheimer into the schools and shuls to get his message out and make sure the community is fully aware of his efforts and goals.
