THE GYM Raises Over $7,000 Through Fifth Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser

THE GYM continues to be a major local contributor in the fight for breast cancer by raising money for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. The local fitness and lifestyle center offered a series of classes and fundraiser events in October (breast cancer awareness month) to support this worthy cause. Triple negative tumors are generally aggressive, do not always respond to treatment, and are more likely to recur compared with other types of breast cancer. THE GYM has been working with TNBCF since 2013 and has raised over $37,000 for the foundation since then.

“We could not be more grateful to THE GYM. For the fifth year in a row, its outstanding staff and generous members have gone above and beyond to support the fight against triple negative breast cancer,” said Hayley Dinerman, executive director and co-founder of the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. “Their enthusiasm for our cause has enabled the foundation to support groundbreaking research and to provide essential services to thousands of women who are battling this aggressive disease.”

THE GYM of Englewood began the fundraising drive with a push-up contest as donors would sponsor their trainer to support the foundation. One trainer gutted out over 200 push-ups at up to $2 per push-up to contribute to the cause. Spin and 90-minute dance classes were also held as members signed up to do their share. Members and supporters also purchased Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirts.

Nurit Chasman, Englewood group fitness director, said, “Once again, THE GYM and its members are proud to have been supporters of The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation. Our staff and members did push-ups, spun and danced together with one goal in mind—doing our part to help in the fight for the cure of something that has affected all of our lives in one way or another. The energy and enthusiasm that our trainers, instructors and members brought helped make this such a success. We look forward to next year and doing our part again, but even more so to the day when we can sit back and look at what we have all done together.”

THE GYM of Montvale’s group fitness department, led by THE GYM’s own Lisa Bruchalski, assembled a number of great themed classes to raise money. From boot camp, pink out, video spin to kick box sparkle and shine classes, all the proceeds from these events went to TNBCF. Once again, THE GYM’s members gathered together to show their support and generosity to help a serious cause that affects tens of thousands of women every year.

“Fundraising is so much more than raising money and awareness. It’s about a group of people working together for the same cause. Although we all have different reasons that we participate in fundraisers, we all have the same goal. We ran special classes with fun themes for our Triple Negative Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser. We had pink-outs and spin classes with pink glow sticks, crazy socks and more. Just adding a little extra brings the energy to another level and brings people even closer together as they share their stories and experiences,” said Lisa Bruchalski.
