700 Attend Moriah’s 53rd Annual Dinner

(Courtesy of The Moriah School) On Motzei Shabbat 17th of Adar 5778, March 3, 2018, The Moriah School held its 53rd Annual Dinner at Metlife Stadium. Almost 700 faculty members, students and friends were in attendance to pay tribute to our well-deserving honorees. Excitement filled the air as guests pulled up to the impressive venue to celebrate with The Moriah School.

This year The Moriah School paid tribute to Moriah parents Abby and Scott Herschmann—guests of honor; Moriah parents Dana Septimus and Joseph Feldman—Young Leadership Award recipients; and faculty members Nini Berger and Shoshi Hason—Rabbi J. Shelley Applbaum, z”l, Service Award recipients.

The program began with a musical presentation by the Moriah choir followed by opening remarks made by Moriah Board President Aaron Yunis, thanking all of the generous donors and giving praise to the evening’s honorees. Head of School Rabbi Daniel Alter followed with his focus on what he referred to as “Moriah Moments,” or small acts of thoughtfulness that can be found throughout the school day that embody the core values of Moriah.

A special award was given to Abby Herschmann for her involvement with the “Names, Not Numbers” program at Moriah. Due to Abby’s vision and hard work, Moriah continues to be a pioneer in Holocaust documentation. Her tireless efforts ensure that the story of the few remaining survivors is not forgotten. Moriah owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to Abby for everything she has done.

After speeches and a short video presentation, guests walked through the halls of the stadium surrounded by beautiful student-made artwork. Moriah art teacher Gila Bretter has been working to put together the large-scale art exhibit for months, showcasing the talent of students from all grades as well as her own personal designs.

Dinner was served in one of the stadium’s field-access clubs. The mood was joyful as guests enjoyed good food, live music and access to the field itself for special photo ops.

Moriah would like to thank the dinner campaign co-chairs Alen Gollender and Alex Solomon, as well as the dinner co-chairs Nira Feldman, Shira Forman, Talia Gollender, Rachel Heumann and Lisa Schechter for all of their hard work in making this event so successful.
