Kaplen JCC Pauses for First-Ever Mindful Meditation Retreat

(Courtesy of Kaplen JCC on the Palisades) A crowd of people eager for tips on how to live in the moment and distance themselves from everyday stresses gathered at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades for a first-ever, half-day meditation retreat led by Mark Van Buren, a yoga/meditation and mindful living trainer at the Graf Center for Integrative Medicine at Englewood Health. Guiding people on ways to incorporate meditation into their daily routine, Mark explored meditation in all its forms, including sitting, walking, meditative dance and quietly lying on the floor. He also shared the core teachings of this relaxing practice and how to incorporate journaling into one’s life with restorative results. The event was such a success that a second one has been scheduled for November 4.

“Meditation is one of the best tools for finding inner peace in our highly stressful, fast-paced lives,” says Mark. “It provides emotional well-being and a wide range of additional health benefits that people often overlook as an essential aspect of their workout routines.”

The JCC offers important health-focused community events like this several times a year to bring the community together in a private, peaceful, spa-like setting for amazing experiences. The meditation retreat was held in partnership with The Rodgers Family Meditation Program at the GrafCenter for Integrative Medicine at Englewood Health. The ongoing hope behind these programs and collaborations is to encourage everyone in our community to engage in healthful activities and to learn about all the incredible fitness options open to them.

The JCC is dedicated to helping people attain their personal best in all things related to health and wellness and is staffed with a skilled team of certified fitness instructors who teach yoga, Pilates, barre, cycling, Zumba and other specialized disciplines.
