JVS Job Placement Counselor Recognized for Exemplary Work

East OrangeJewish Vocational Service of MetroWest NJ’s job placement counselor, Janet Sewell, was recently recognized at The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey’s (HFNJ) Annual Lester Z. Lieberman Humanism in Healthcare Awards Event for her exemplary work with the nonprofit, community-based health and human services organization. The program honors healthcare employees, nursing and medical students and nursing faculty in the greater Newark region who model selflessness, empathy and cultural sensitivity. Sewell, of West Orange, was honored at a ceremony that was held at The Crystal Plaza in Livingston.

With more than 20 years of experience, Sewell plays a pivotal role in JVS’ Career Center. The Career Center began in 2011 with support from HFNJ and the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS). It offers social skills training, work readiness sessions and job search groups for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who want to enter the workforce.

“We couldn’t be prouder of Janet. Her compassion for her clientele is always evident, making her the ideal candidate for this type of award,” said JVS board president Michael Goldberg. “She focuses 100 percent of her time to helping clients acquire the skills and confidence they need to become self-sufficient, which brings JVS’ mission to life: ‘helping people to help themselves.’ She is an asset to our Career Center and we are certain that she’ll continue to touch the lives of many moving forward.”
