‘Fall Prevention and Home Safety’ to Be Discussed in Westfield

An informational program on “Tips for Managing Caregiver Stress,” for seniors and their families, will take place on Tuesday, January 9, at 11:30 a.m. at The Senior Resource Center at The Lavy House, 748 E. Broad Street, Westfield, New Jersey. The program will be presented by Dr. Claire M. Mulry, OTD, OTR, CAPS, who is an assistant professor in the department of occupational therapy at Kean University. Dr. Mulry specializes in community programming, community mobility, adult-acquired brain injury, aging in place, environmental modifications and home care.

In the United States, falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults. Many falls can be prevented by taking some simple measures. Making the home safer and reducing the risk of falls can be achieved by installing grab bars, removing throw rugs and adding lighting.

The Senior Resource Center at The Lavy House is a joint venture between Jewish Family Service of Central NJ, Temple Emanu-El of Westfield and The Westfield United Fund. Through a grant from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater MetroWest NJ, Jewish Family Service of Central NJ provides programming and the services of social worker Naomi Kreutzer, LCSW, each Tuesday. Programs are free of charge and open to the entire community.

A light lunch will be served. Kosher dietary laws observed. Registration is recommended if you plan to attend. Email [email protected] or call 908-352-8375.
