RPRY Names Assistant Principals of General and Judaic Studies

After a comprehensive and exhaustive search, RPRY has announced the appointment of assistant principals for both general and Judaic studies. Mrs. Chana Luchins will assume the role of assistant principal of general studies, while Rabbi Joshua Einzig will be the school’s assistant principal of Judaic studies.

Luchins brings to the position over 20 years of experience in the field of education, working with students from preschool through Grade 12, in both general and Judaic studies. Additionally, she has provided professional development for colleagues and mentored fellow classroom and special education teachers. Luchins has extensive training in various educational specialties; for example, she has been trained as a Wilson/Orton Gillingham reading specialist, as both a constructivist and meta-cognitive math teacher, as well as in the thoughtful incorporation of blended learning. She holds a master’s degree in special education from the Graduate School of Education at Touro College.

Luchins joined the RPRY family in 2008 after a successful career teaching at SAR Academy in Riverdale, NY, which greatly influenced her educational philosophy and vision. She is teaching math in the RPRY middle school, in addition to workingas an in-class support teacher through the Educational Services Commission.

Luchins comes to the position with experience, insights and established relationships with both families and faculty, many of whom already view and utilize her as a valuable resource. She was the clear top choice of the search committee, which included RPRY administrators, teachers, parents and lay leaders.

Rabbi Einzig brings a remarkable amount of Jewish day-school experience  to the RPRY administrative team. For the past three years, he has served as head of school at Torah Day School of Atlanta, GA, where he was responsible for the supervision and management of all staff; oversight and guidance of financial operations and admissions; as well as interfacing with donors, community leaders and organizations. Prior to that, Rabbi Einzig served for eight years as the head of school at Westchester Day School in Mamaroneck, NY, where he strengthened the middle school by developing all areas of the curriculum, training teachers in differentiated instruction, implementing blended learning programs and introducing the Tal Am Hebrew Language Program to the school. Earlier in his career, Rabbi Einzig had the opportunity to serve in similar administrative roles at the H.F. Epstein Hebrew Academy in St. Louis, MO, and the Samuel Scheck Hillel Day School in Boca Raton, FL.

Rabbi Einzig began his career as a Judaic studies teacher at North Shore Hebrew Academy. He holds a master’s degree in education from City College of New York and received smicha from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary at Yeshiva University. Rabbi Einzig is excited to work with both teachers and students, and proudly shared with the search committee that he is a “teacher at heart.” He brings experience and creativity to RPRY regarding Judaic studies learning and teaching, and his commitment to excellence will certainly continue to strengthen the curriculum and instruction at the school.

“I am excited to work with Rabbi Einzig and Mrs. Luchins this coming year. Mrs. Luchins brings years of experience at RPRY and knowledge of the school and community. Rabbi Einzig brings years of experience in educational administration. They both have expertise on both sides of the curriculum and believe strongly in excellence, innovation and collaboration,” said Rabbi Daniel Loew, RPRY head of school, in an email to parents.
