Moriah Limits Snow Days

Elizabeth Kratz described the challenges of working moms in dealing with days off of school in the light of the snow days over the past few weeks (“Another Cost of Yeshiva Day School: Mom’s Career,” March 15, 2018). I agree with her perspectives and was happy to see that my children’s school shares these views. She writes that “All of us had a minimum of two days off in the middle of the week due to a rare March snowstorm.” I am proud to say that this was not accurate for Moriah, who held school on the second day after the snowstorm. Moriah administrators were able to minimize the disruption and limit the late start to one hour on Thursday. The kids at Moriah joke that they never have snow days because our head of school is Canadian and came to us via Denver and is accustomed to snow as a part of life. But all kidding aside, as a working mom I appreciate that our school will do everything in its power to avoid a snow day and ensure that real learning continues and schedules are not disrupted.
