Thank You, Shomrei Torah

To the members of the amazing Fair Lawn Shomrei Torah community,

We in New Rochelle are awe-inspired and have no words to adequately express the appreciation and admiration we feel toward you.

Our community had been essentially put in quarantine a week before Purim and we were struggling with members in our shul who were terribly ill and others who had been diagnosed with the coronavirus, and although not hospitalized, were still sick and needed help. It also was a brand new dilemma for us as to how to observe (and enjoy) Purim and yet still abide by the guidelines set for us by the city.

As we were in the midst of all this, we (families with children ages 3-5th grade) and the rabbis and their families were so happily surprised to find deliveries at our doors from the Fair Lawn Shomrei Torah community! Who were the people in that community, we wondered? How did they know us? How did they, on Purim day itself, on such short notice and when they were so busy with their own celebrations of Purim, manage to pack customized שלח מנות packages and drive all the way out to New Rochelle to deliver those packages on Purim day?? The question and the concept was mind-boggling!

We have since discovered some of the answers (we will never know all of the determination and all of the devotion that went into this). We want to say from the bottom of our hearts to all of you: יישר כוחכם! What you have done is truly remarkable and has left an indelible impression on us!! You have demonstrated and personified the teaching of חזל that

כל ישראל ערבים זה לזה

and you have shown in our days what it is to act כאיש אחד בלב אחד

We thank you so much and we wish you and your families a חג פסח כשר ושמח! May you all stay healthy and well!!

With appreciation and gratitude,

Rabbi Reuven and Abby Fink
