Join Project S.A.R.A.H. at 13th Annual Breakfast This Sunday

(Courtesy of Project S.A.R.A.H.) Do you feel lonely, isolated, trapped, like you are “walking on eggshells” around your spouse/partner? Are you losing your self-esteem? These are the questions facing the women in the Project S.A.R.A.H. women’s group.

This group is for women in “challenging relationships.” We are often asked why a support group? What are the benefits to group therapy?

In abusive or “challenging” relationships, women can be made to feel as if they are crazy and as if their concerns are not valid. In unhealthy relationships with an imbalance of power, the dominating partner can use a technique known as gas lighting. Gas lighting is a form of psychological manipulation that makes the targeted individual question her own memory, perception and sanity. In unbalanced relationships, one partner may become isolated and cut off from friends and family due to the deliberate machinations of the dominating partner.

We have seen the effects of the support that the women give to one another during weekly meetings in the safe environment that is provided by licensed therapists. Women form bonds with each other and become invested in each other’s struggles and successes. This is an antidote to the isolation that they endure. The women experience validation at having their thoughts and feelings heard in a non-judgmental environment. We have witnessed a woman’s posture relaxing as she sees that she’s not the only one going through this struggle and she is not alone. This is the power of a support group. It is one of the many services provided at no cost to participants in Project S.A.R.A.H. programs. If you or a loved one are interested in joining, please call 973-777/7638 and ask for Shani.

Please join us this Sunday, April 7, at the 13th annual breakfast to support programs such as the women’s group. To learn more about Project S.A.R.A.H.: www.projectsarah.org  or 973-777-7638.
