Bruriah Students Take a Day Trip

Bruriah students got a big send off on day five of the new school year, as each grade headed off on a day trip. The freshman went to High Exposure Rock Climbing, sophomores to Monmouth Beach, juniors to Spring Lake and seniors to Governors Island. Students shared their reactions to a couple of the trips, while others were more inclined to tell their stories with photos.

Some freshmen found it odd to have a trip so early in the year. Naomi Kraemer, of West Orange, shed some light on the situation. “Having a trip so early in the year was a great bonding experience, and it was a relief to have a break from all the classes that we aren’t used to yet.” The trip was a successful way of mixing the girls. As freshman Hannah Klerer, of Edison, said, “The best part of the trip for me, was the fact that I was able to make new friends and talk to girls who I wouldn’t ordinarily have a chance to talk to.” In between rock-wall climbing and the obstacle course, girls created new friendships. Many girls lent a hand to their friends stuck on obstacles, while others were flying through the course, literally swinging on ropes. You could clearly see the joy splashed across everyone’s faces. Tehila Hyman, of Teaneck, mentioned, “The most memorable thing on this trip was the opportunity to try new things with friends, old and new.” After lunch the girls headed back to school. Asked about the day, Aliza Walzman, of Hillside, commented, “The best part of the bus was meeting new people to talk and hang out with.” Girls walked back into school with radiating faces; the trip had ended but the next four years had just begun.

The sophomores traveled to Monmouth Beach to spend time getting to know their grade, as well as their new teachers. Upon reaching the beach the students excitedly jumped into the water, clothes and all. Their mid-length skirts eventually transformed into maxis as the water drenched some students from head to toe. Across the beach girls played in the water, tossed frisbees, made some new grade connections and spotted dolphins. Some students even took this opportunity as a direct learning experience. One student discussed the opportunity offered to us at the beach to really explore G-d’s statement that we would be, “…כחול אשר על שפת הים” “.. as the sand that is on the seashore,” as she gripped a fistful of sand saying, “Look at the millions of grains that are in just my hand; Imagine how many are on the whole beach.” Although our footprints faded, the memories of that beach day never will.
