Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter Speaks at RPRY

In preparation for the yomim noraim, Rabbi Pesach Raymon Yeshiva had the privilege of hearing from Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter, university professor of Jewish history and Jewish thought and senior scholar at the Center for the Jewish Future at Yeshiva University. He inspired the audience to emphasize improving interpersonal relationships and dedication to community during this high holiday season. Rabbi Schacter referred to the story of Hagar in the desert with Ishmael; that amidst her desperation, Hashem “opened her eyes” and there was a well. The well, Rabbi Schacter pointed out, was there all along. Hashem did not “miraculously parachute it in.” Rather, Hagar became aware of the blessing already bestowed. He told the filled audience that, likewise, the most important blessings in our lives are “right there, already waiting for us.” Families, health and Jewish institutions should not be taken for granted. These institutions, particularly Jewish schools, he added, are precious jewels in our midst and supporting them builds the whole community. RPRY is honored that Rabbi Dr. Jacob J. Schacter spoke to their community, and all present uplifted by his message.
