This week, JEC High School students and faculty were privileged to hear an amazing tale of survival and heroism from survivors Henry and Bernard Schanzer, grandfather and great uncle of current JEC students. These amazing men, identical twins, told of their miraculous journey of survival, and of the righteous gentiles who helped them through their most terrifying ordeal. Mixing humor with sadness, the Schanzers reminded students what it means to demonstrate goodness and kindness, even in the darkest of times, and the importance of hakaras hatov. The school was uplifted by their mere presence.
