Moriah Early Childhood Learns to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Moriah nursery kids are helping to save the planet! They’re learning about reducing, reusing and recycling. The kids were introduced to a puppet named Wasteful Wally. Wasteful Wally made one or two little marks on a paper and then threw it away. We asked the kids if that was OK and encouraged them to think about reducing waste. There is a paper recycle bin for scraps of paper that can be reused. The children are decorating tote bags to bring home so that parents can reduce the number of paper or plastic bags used when they shop for groceries. They also took a trip to the Moriah kitchen and asked the kitchen staff if they would kindly save their vegetable and fruit peels, egg shells and overripe produce. They’ll put these to good use as they learn about composting. Students will use the compost in their very own garden in the near future. Of course, they also love to do mitzvot and by helping the planet, they are doing the mitzvah of tikkun olam! The children love planet Earth and want to help it stay beautiful!
