TABC Performs ‘Treasure Island’ for Captivated Crowd

On Thursday, January 3, the TABC theater department performed the play “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson, adapted for the stage by Stuart Paterson, to an audience filled with friends, family and TABC faculty. The play is about a young boy named Jim Hawkins, who stumbles upon a map to the treasure of the notorious pirate Captain Flint. He gets pulled into an exhilarating adventure full of action, betrayal and, of course, sword fights. Hawkins finds the courage to do things he never thought he would be able to do, and ultimately achieves his goal.

The theater department at TABC attracts student actors and techies in grades nine to 12. Student actors attended bi-weekly rehearsals since September and techies hopped on board in November. Sound, lights, props and set were all student created and run. Over 25 students had a hand in bringing this production to the stage! Directed by Rebecca Lopkin, director of performing arts and produced by her company, Envision Theater, this show marks her fifth collaboration at TABC. Next up, “A Few Good Men” in the spring!
