Color War Adds to the Simcha at Ma’ayanot

In celebration of Rosh Chodesh Adar 1, Ma’ayanot enjoyed a two-day, ruach-filled color war. Each grade represented a different theme related to Purim: ninth grade/blue team celebrated simcha, 10th grade/red team demonstrated achdut, 11th grade/green team embodied hakarat hatov and 12th grade/black team exhibited nedivut.

Color war at Ma’ayanot is an annual interdisciplinary event, providing each student with an opportunity to showcase her talents. This year’s wide range of competitions included a Jeopardy-style chidon, multiple sports, banners, songs, decorated hallways, dances, Hebrew cheers, cake wars, spelling bee, Name That Tune, theme-related STEAM inventions, Moot Beit Din, relay races, a KenKen math challenge, a real-time response to the State of the Union address and more. The faculty, led by Sarah Gordon and Shifra Friedman, the school’s directors of student activities and experiential education, were the “achashdarpenim,” a term from Megillat Esther that translates as “governors,” or in this case, judges. All would agree that the spirit and unity of this year’s color war will last throughout the year.
