As part of the pursuit of justice unit in humanities class, The Idea School students studied ancient Greece and the different forms of government, and read Sophocles’ play “Antigone,” a story about a heroine who breaks a civil law because she feels it violates the laws of the gods. Under the guidance of Nancy Edelman, head of humanities at The Idea School, students wrote and acted in a mock trial based on the classic Greek tragedy where the main character, Antigone, is now given a chance at a fair trial for a crime she committed in the story. The trial was presided over by a guest judge and the verdict was delivered by a jury made up of the audience who found Antigone not guilty.
