TABC Offers Navi Spotlight

A hallmark of TABC has always been a balanced emphasis on Gemara and Tanach ever since Rabbi Adler joined TABC 26 years ago. A specific opportunity for juniors and seniors is an in-depth study of Navi. Alternating years focus on Sefer Yonah/Five Megillot and Sefer Melachim.

Rebbeim focus on sefarim with a rich array of mefarshim such as Sefer Yonah and Megillat Rut. This deep dive into these sefarim yields a lifetime of rewards as students are reminded of their learning when these sefarim are read as part of the tefillot on special occasions such as Yom Kippur and Shavuot.

The school’s most veteran Nach rebbe is Rabbi Jachter who has already transformed one semester of TABC learning into a well-received sefer entitled “The Depths of Yonah: Unleashing the Power of Your Yom Kippur.” Currently, together with senior Nachum (Ned) Krasnopolsky, Rabbi Jachter is preparing a work on Sefer Melachim to be entitled “From David to Destruction: Mining Essential Lessons from Sefer Melachim.” In both sefarim virtually every chapter contains original insights from Rabbi Jachter’s talmidim throughout the years.

The shiurim span the full range of classic mefarshim and are spiced with newer insights afforded by recent archaeological and historical discoveries. The Navi is explored in depth to reveal deep hashkafic lessons in each and every shiur. Most importantly, each day’s learning is capped off with a lesson to propel us to be better Jews and better people.

Rebbeim often collaborate in creating the most compelling learning experiences and maximizing student buy-in. “The result,” comments Head of School Rabbi Asher Yablok, “is a Tanach program whose quality and richness of learning is simply unmatched in any Jewish school throughout North America.”
