Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

This past weekend was another busy week for the MGBL high school division. Going into the weekend the Benchwarmers and Embroidme were still searching for a regular season victory and Akari Therapeutics Plc was having a perfect season.

The first game of the weekend takes us to the Torah Academy of Bergen County, where the Benchwarmers defeated Lincoln Equity 64-55 behind a solid game from freshman Jack Reinhart. On the other court at TABC, THESHPIELMANS.COM – # 1 toy on planet team took Akari Therapeutics Plc to the wire, falling just a little short as Akari Therapeutics Plc collected their third win of the season 56-52. Meanwhile at Ben Porat Yosef, B-I-L Office Furniture handed the Herzfeld Strong team their second defeat of the season 65-60.

The late games take us back to TABC, on court one Embroidme collected their first win 57-53 over Confie, behind some incredible free throw shooting by Yechiel Keiser. On the other court, Duff & Phelps and Sharsheret were locked in a back and forth game, that came down to a three pointer at the buzzer by Daniel Hirsch to give Duff & Phelps the win 62-61.

The action continued on Sunday evening when Sharsheret squared off against Akari Therapeutic Plc. While the teams were warming up it looked like Akari Therapeutic Plc was destined to collect win number four as Sharsheret was missing several key players to a junior trip. Akari Therapeutic Plc’s Jack Stepner played a great game leading all scorers with 32 points, but the undermanned Sharsheret team wasn’t going down without a fight. Akari Therapeutic Plc was up 33-21 at the half and seemed in control of the game. Sharsheret, lead by Stevie Paul’s 21 points, two huge threes from freshman Shaya Goldberg and tenacious defense, battled back taking a 54-51 lead with less than a minute to play. Akari Therapeutic Plc’s freshman Yonatan Kaye answered back with a three of his own to tie the game at 54 all. Paul took the ball coast to coast and an Akari turnover with less than 20 seconds to play forced Akari Therapeutic Plc to foul to stop the clock. Sharsheret freshman Ikey Gutlove sank two huge free throws, giving Sharsheret the two points they needed to hand Akari their first loss of the season.

The action continues this weekend with games Saturday night and Sunday. See the complete schedule at http://mgbl.org/Schedule.php?LeagueID=8.0
