Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Abie Jacoby

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 10-year-old Abie Jacoby as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Jacoby, a rising 3rd grader at The Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey, just finished off another solid week at camp Malchus, including a clutch buzzer beater to win a big game for his team. Avi Rosalimsky, Head Counselor of Camp Malchus told the JLNJ “ Abie is the unsung hero of his team and a true leader on the court. He runs plays and makes all of the players around him better. Abie is also a big hustler who constantly does his best to assure that his team plays together and has fun. A true team player.”

Abie you are part of a long line of terrific athletes; Your Grandfather Dr Morris Tilson is a tremendous coach and role model and your older brothers Yoni, Meir and Pacey were former stars on the RYNJ basketball team. If you had to select, who would you say is your role model?

My parents because they are great parents and they take good care of me.

Who is your favorite athlete, and why?

Isaiah Thomas. He is simply a great basketball player. Also, he had the most points in the 4th quarter last season of any player in the NBA. Plus, he plays for my favorite team (the greatest team), the Boston Celtics.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment, so far?

Hitting the buzzer beater this past week in Camp Malchus

What is your pregame routine?

First, I take a couple of shots. Then I do some dribbling routines. Lastly, then I stretch.

What is your earliest sport memory?

When I was 5 years old, my dad started playing basketball with me and that is how I learned to play basketball.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Playing x-box, hanging out with my friends.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

You feel great about the accomplishment, and you can also share the news with your friends – who will say WOW!

The Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week will receive a $15 gift certificate to Teaneck Doghouse. Please send nominees for an upcoming Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
