Yeshiva University Women’s Soccer Rises to Shutout Victory Over York

(Yumacs.com) The Yeshiva University women’s soccer team opened the 2017 season in grand fashion, knocking off York College by a score of 14-0, at the Aviator Sports and Events Center on Friday afternoon. Yeshiva’s new head coach Marc Zharnest earns his first collegiate coaching victory.

Leading the way for the Maccabees was junior forward Eliana Tuchman, who scored a career-high six goals and added four assists, for a total of 16 points during the afternoon. Freshman midfielder Danielle Blicker got her career off to a strong start by scoring four goals. Classmate Gabrielle Aboudi produced a pair of goals and added an assist, while junior defender Anabella Berti and senior forward Batsheva Kivelevitz each put the ball in the back of the net. Junior midfielder Moreet Levine recorded an assist.

In goal, sophomore Gabriella Chutter turned aside one shot to earn her second career shutout.

Yeshiva (1-0) did not take long to strike. In the first minute of the match, Aboudi launched the ball into the cage, from the left side of the box, to give the Maccabees the lead for good. That would be the first of 12 YU goals in the opening half.

In the seventh minute, Tuchman forced a turnover in the box and tipped the ball past York’s (0-1) goalkeeper to extend the Maccabees’ lead to two. After Tuchman scored her second goal of the day, Blicker add to Yeshiva’s advantage by dribbling the ball past the defender at midfield, and scoring on a breakaway to put the Macs up 5-0, just over five minutes into the contest.

Later in the half, Tuchman scored her sixth goal in just the 34th minute, as she forced a turnover and shot the ball into the back of the net from point-blank range, giving Yeshiva a comfortable 12-0 advantage.

In the second half, the Maccabees capped off the scoring as Berti received the ball on a cross by Tuchman and buried it into the net for the Blue and White’s 14th goal of the contest.

For the match, the Maccabees outshot the Cardinals, 34-3.
