Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Gabrielle Hoffer

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize Gabrielle Hoffer as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Gaby is nine years old and in fourth grade at Yeshivat Noam. She’s having an amazing MGBL season so far, dominating games and leading team Nina Eizikovitz-Links Residential to victory the past four weeks. Last week, Gaby scored a game high 16 points, and the week before she scored 15 points and had a great assist to help her team win by a score of 19-15. The prior week Gaby hit two free throws with under a minute left to put her team up by one for good. When MGBL is not in session, Gaby plays on a Bergen Broncos basketball team and plays TBO softball, where she won the championship three of her four years playing. When she is not playing sports, Gaby can be found doing cartwheels and flips around the neighborhood.

Gaby, congrats on a great first half of MGBL. If you had to pick one person, who is your role model, and why?

My dad, because he coaches a lot of my teams and practices with me. Also, my sister Dalia—she always wants to play ball with me.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment, so far?

Winning a TBO championship in a year when my team had not won a single game in the regular season.

What is your pre-game routine, if you have one?

I do some cartwheels to warm up.

What is your earliest sport memory?

Going to a Mets game and getting ice cream.

What is the weirdest sports related thing that has happened to you?

I was playing hockey with my sister using metal golf clubs (bad idea, I know). She accidentally hit me in the forehead and I needed 25 stitches.

What is your favorite sports memory?

The first time I played MGBL.

What do you like to do when not playing sports?

Watch YouTube videos.

What is the best thing about being a sportstar?

I get to be in the newspaper!
