TABC Jr. Hockey Champs End With a Bang…and Seforim

Sunday, December 10 bro­ught two terrific championship games. The junior division featured the Devils and Coyotes. Goalies Akiva Rothenberg and Ian Ma ndelbaum kept the game scoreless until two seconds left in the second period when Max Schachter popped home a rebound to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead. They would hold that lead until 1:50 left in the game when regular season MVP Aiden Rauzman tied the game at 1-1. The game went to sudden death overtime and just one minute in, playoff MVP Aiden Rauzman ripped a shot top corner to give the Devils a 2-1 win. Other regular season awards were as follows: Most Improved Player Shua Kopstick, Breakout Player Jacob Gervis, Sportsmanship Gavriel Saks, coach Yoni Zirman. First team All Stars: Abie Fields, Yonatan Brothman, Max Schachter, Ben Zion Keiser and Akiva Rotenberg. Second team All Stars: Chaim Simon, Noam Becker, Yoel Gellman, Eyal Kinderlehrer and Howie Rudolph.

The senior division game featured the Islanders and Golden Knights. This was a game controlled by goalies Chaim Mermelstein and Ezra Grauberd. The score stayed 0-0 late into the second period when short handed, Dani Greenberg stole the puck and scored on a breakaway to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead. The score stayed 1-0 until seven minutes left when Jonah Cohen fired a shot past Mermelstein for a commanding 2-0, since playoff MVP Ezra Grauberd would not be beaten on this day. Dani Greenberg finished the scoring into an empty net to give the Islanders the 3-0 win. Regular season MVP went to Tzvi Naor; Most Improved Player Yehuda Weiner; Breakout Player Ezra Becker; Sportsmanship Ophir Rauzman and coach Ari Solomon.
