Bruriah A-League Basketball Makes Its Move

With back-to-back victories against Heschel, Bruriah’s basketball A team pulled itself over.500 at just about the midpoint of its season. Currently riding a three-game winning streak, the Lightning got off to a rocky start this season, losing three of its first four games. Early-season losses to Frisch, Ma’ayanot, and SAR landed the Lightning in the basement of the Western Conference.

A 49-36 road win at Central started the Lightning’s three-game winning streak. Under the leadership of captains Gabi Goldberg, Shira Hagler and Jessie Orgel—all seniors—the Lightning is in fourth place at 4-3. Rounding out the starting five are senior Mikayla Elk and junior Gabrielle Thurm. Goldberg and Thurm kept things humming on the offensive end at Central, while Elk, Hagler and junior Adina Pinsker helped the Lightning stave off Central’s runs.

Orgel kept things under control at Heschel, while the Lighting blew the game open at the beginning of the second half. A well-oiled offense and tight defense by sophomores Kayla Goldstein, Miriam Klerer and Yael Sabo secured this road win 48-30. About a week later the Lightning hosted the Heat and came away with a 52-26 victory. Good defense by junior Talya Alter and sophomore Rachel Shmuel kept Heschel at bay.The Lightning put up points on shooting from juniors Danielle Gardner and Sarah Yager.
