Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Gavriella Adler

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 10-year-old Gavriella Adler as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Yavneh Academy fourth grader just completed another amazing session of MGBL but takes no time time off to rest. She also plays for the Bergen Broncos, Teaneck Jr. Soccer League and competes for US Gymnastics in Leonia. Gavriella’s mom told the JLNJ “ She has benefited tremendously from the wonderful MGBL, Broncos and US Gymnastics coaching staffs. “

Gavriella, I know you have many positive role models in your life. If you had to select one person, who is your role model and why?

My older siblings, because they are all great athletes who work hard at everything they do.

What is your favorite sport?

Gymnastics and basketball, and tennis is a close third.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment, so far?

Winning an all around title at a recent gymnastics competition.

Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?

Aly Raisman because she’s proud to be a Jewish athlete, because she worked hard to reach her goals, and because now she’s working with organizations to help children.

What is your pregame routine?

Before gymnastics competitions, I stretch and warm up my routines with my team. Before basketball games, I usually practice a few shots from different places on the court.

What is your earliest sports memory?

When I was in kindergarten, I did a roundoff back-handspring by myself for the first time. My sister taught me how to do it and spotted me, and after a lot of practice, I finally did it on my own.

What is your favorite sports memory?

One time, my team competed at a gymnastics competition on a Saturday. Since I couldn’t compete on Saturday, I was allowed to compete on Sunday with a different age group. A couple of my teammates drove over an hour each way with their moms to come back to the competition on Sunday to cheer me on because they are really great friends.

Favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Hang out with my friends and siblings.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

I love participating in sports and I have made such amazing friends on my teams.

The Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week will receive a $15 gift certificate to Teaneck Doghouse. Please send nominees for an upcoming Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
