Yeshiva University Roller Hockey Team Has Another Successful Season

(Courtesy of yumacs.com) The Yeshiva University roller hockey team had another successful season, advancing to the National quarterfinal game for the second season in a row. This was just Yeshiva’s second year competing in Division II and third year of existence as a program.

The Maccabees earned its second consecutive berth in the National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association championships, out in Fargo, North Dakota, after going 12-5 in the regular season.

Yeshiva opened up pool play with a 7-3 win over Missouri S&T. YU followed up with a convincing victory over Cal Poly Poma, 8-5. In the final game of pool competition, Yeshiva just fell short to Easter Collegiate Roller Hockey Association rival Stony Brook, 3-2, in a shootout. However, Yeshiva was still able to win the pool with five points.

The Macs had a Sweet 16 matchup against East Carolina. In the third period, junior forward Ari Drazin scored on the power-play to give the Maccabees a 2-1 lead. However, East Carolina was able to tie the game less than two minutes later. The game was knotted up at the end of regulation so sudden-victory overtime was needed. Just 39 seconds into extra session, Drazin scored an unassisted goal to send the Maccabees to their second straight Elite Eight appearance.

In the National quarterfinal, RIT proved to be too much, winning the game by a score of 6-1. It was still a successful season for the third-year roller hockey program.

For the season, junior forward Jake Ratzker led the team with 25 goals and 19 assists. Second-year forward Donny Fuchs recorded 22 goals and 17 assists, while Drazin put the puck into the net 20 times and added 19 helpers. Sophomore forward Moshe Genuth had 11 goals with 10 assists, while junior defenseman Benjy Shulman produced 12 points. In goal, junior net-minder Joseph Robin went 11-5 to guide his team all the way to the National quarterfinal game.

The Maccabees will be back in action in October of 2018.
