Ritholtz and Yoshor Earn Spots on Capital One Academic All-District Teams

The 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District men’s and women’s basketball teams have been selected, and Yeshiva University has garnered two spots on its respective district teams, as Benjy Ritholtz has earned a spot on the men’s side and Rebecca Yoshor secured a spot on the women’s side.

Yeshiva is a part of District 3 which covers all NCAA Division III institutions in the entire state of New York. In order to earn a spot on the ballot of this extremely prestigious award, student-athletes must show excellence not only on the playing field, but in the classroom as well. To qualify for a nomination, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.3. The qualifying student-athletes are nominated and voted on by College Sports Information.

Ritholtz, a senior history major, has a 3.98 GPA and has averaged 15.6 points per game, along with 5.8 rebounds and a .353 three point field goal percentage (30-for-85) this season. He is expected to become the next member of the men’s basketball program’s elusive 1000 point club. To date, the 6-3 West Hempstead, NY product has 651 points, leaving him 349 to go with the rest of this season and one more season next year to achieve it.

Yoshor, a senior English major with a 3.92 GPA, makes the All-District team for the second time in as many years. This season, she has picked up where she left off, and is currently the nation’s leader in rebounds, grabbing 17.2 per game, while scoring 16.3 points per contest. Through two and-a-half seasons with the Maccabees, Yoshor has netted 816 points and 755 rebounds. She may become Yeshiva women’s basketball’s second 1000-point scorer and first to grab 1000 career rebounds. “I am very happy to have been selected,” said Yoshor. “And I really appreciate that I have had the opportunity to be a part of such a great team during my time at (Stern).”

With their selections, Ritholtz and Yoshor will now have their names on the ballot for the Capital One Academic All-American teams (first team, second team, and third team). The selections to those teams will be announced on February 18.
