Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Eli Wiederkehr

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 9-year-old Eli Wiederkehr as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The incoming fourth grader at the Rosenbaum Yeshiva of North Jersey, just won his second consecutive sports MVP award (2017 Camp Merockdim and 2018 Camp Shoresh). Avi Epstein has been with Wiederkehr both summers and shared some thoughts with the JLNJ: “Eli is a true MVP on and off the court. His leadership qualities are outstanding and his never-quit attitude is contagious. Eli is a true point guard who makes all his teammates better. He is a scrappy defender and has a tremendous touch around the rim. Eli’s sportsmanship is obvious, his constant encouragement and ability to stay positive truly stand out.”

This on the court success is nothing new to Weiderkehr, who for several years he has been a stand out player for the CMEK AAU program. Chad Mekles of CMEK told the JLNJ “Eli is an exceptional player with a high basketball IQ. He practices hard and has evolved into an awesome play-making guard who possesses the ability to create his own shot and set up teammates. Last year, he was an integral part of our fall championship team. Then, in the spring as a third grader he was a key part of our team who made it to the final of the fourth grade division. Most importantly, he’s a coachable kid who plays with a strong desire and passion for learning and improving.”
