(Courtesy of Kaplen JCC on the Palisades) The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is pleased to host its second annual Sports Night of Champions, which will take place on Thursday, November 26, at 6 p.m., to support scholarships at the JCC. The evening will include an elegant strolling dinner, program with award presentations and a moderated discussion featuring two well-known champions in the world of baseball: Ron Darling, former Mets pitcher, World Series champion and current game analyst; and Tino Martinez, former Yankees first baseman and four-time World Series champion. Tracy Wolfson, four-time Emmy-nominated sportscaster, will lead the discussion.

The evening will also honor Marty Levitt, former president of the JCC, with the Joseph Taub Lifetime Achievement Award. Creator of the Marty Levitt Basketball League, he will be recognized for the tremendous impact he has made on youth in the area of athletics. Longtime JCC board member and co- president of the Tenafly Youth Basketball League, Eric Kleiner will be honored with the Emerging Leader Award, in appreciation for his inspiration and guidance to thousands of aspiring young athletes in our community.

“Our first annual event surpassed all our expectations, raising more than $200,000 for JCC scholarships, and we hope to exceed this at our second event,” said JCC CEO Jordan Shenker. “This is a high-energy, exciting night, where we honor community leaders, present scholarships to high school athletes, and engage our community with special guest appearances by star sports figures. And at the end of the night, when we all go home, we get to carry that deep sense of pride that comes from knowing we can help countless children, families and seniors in need in our community.”

To add to the night’s celebration, the JCC will present its second Joseph Taub Scholar Athlete Awards to one female and one male high school senior who are Bergen County residents. Recipients will be awarded $3,600 each in college scholarship money to recognize their excellence on their sports teams, in school and in their communities. Runner up and honorable mention awards will also be distributed.

The event board includes Kenny Albert, Noah Garden, Jeff Kurtz, Jeff Levitt, JoJo Rubach, Steve Rosner, Daniel Rubin, Craig Silver, Scott Tesser, Gordon A. Uehling III, Tracy Wolfson and Barry Zeller.
