The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize just turned 11-year-old Orli Scharf as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Yeshivat Noam, fifth grader is having a terrific season for MGBL team V&N Realty. Orli’s father, and coach of team V&N Realty, told the JLNJ, “Orli is all about effort. She is always working to improve her game on both sides of the ball. I am especially proud of her because she’s just as excited about making a great pass or defensive play as she is about scoring baskets.”

Happy Birthday Orli! I know you have many amazing role models in your life, but if you had to narrow it down, who are your athletic role models?

My siblings because they taught me how to be a good athlete.

What is your favorite sport?

Basketball.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning my second Broncos championship last June.

Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?

Kristaps Porzingis. I love the Knicks and I love that he is a center who can shoot from the outside.

What is your pregame routine, if you have one?

We do lay up lines and windmill. I always wear my T-shirt from my first Broncos championship under my jersey.

What is your earliest sport memory?

When my dad was teaching me how to dribble outside when I was 3.

What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you while playing sports?

One time a ref set up a pick for me and I scored.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Playing MGBL and being on the same team as my cousin.

What do you like to do when you are not playing sports?

Playing with my friends, but we’re usually playing sports.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
