Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Danielle Beckoff

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 11-year-old Danielle Beckoff as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The sixth grader at Yavneh Academy is a star for MGBL’s Judaica House team, averaging over 20 points per game this season. In one game earlier this season, Beckoff had 36 points—including all eight of the total points scored in overtime—leading Judaica House to a thrilling eight point overtime win. Team Judaica House’s coach Richard Frohlich told the JLNJ, “On top of being a scoring machine, she is a great teammate. Despite her scoring ability she always looks to pass and puts her teammates in the best possible position to score.”

Danielle, congratulations on another great season. Who are your role models and why?

My role models are my parents because they have taught me to never give up and always play hard to the end.

What is your favorite sport?

My favorite sport is basketball.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

My greatest sports accomplishment occurred last year in MGBL when I scored with 10 seconds left to tie the game and then I stole the inbound pass and scored at the buzzer to win the game.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

My favorite athlete is Kyrie Irving. Compared to other NBA players, Kyrie is not very tall but he still dribbles around people and scores points or sets up his teammates for easy shots. I am not very tall either so I try my best to copy what Kyrie does when I play basketball.

What is your pregame routine, if you have one?

I practice free throws before every game and shoot layups.

What is your earliest sport memory?

When I was in second grade, I hit a half-court shot at the end of a quarter in an MGBL Game.

What is your favorite sports memory?

When I went with my family to see the Mets beat the Cubs in a playoff game.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

I like to spend time with my friends and relax.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

I love playing sports so it makes me feel good that others notice my accomplishments on the court.

The Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week will receive a $15 gift at the Teaneck Doghouse. Please send nominees for an upcoming Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
