TABC Storm Celebrates Big Wins

The TABC athletic program is off to an amazing start for the 2018-2019 school year. The winter sports are all in the heart of their season and finding success on and off the court. The Storm track team has already completed yet another successful season bringing home the championship for the third consecutive year in a row. The varsity basketball team made it to the semi-finals at the Glouberman tournament in Los Angeles, and has rattled off four straight wins against DRS, HANC, JEC and Ramaz. Coach Oz Cross has the team playing amazing defense as they have held each of their last four opponents to under 40 points! Junior Yoni Mann and senior Jonathan Haberman are carrying a lot of the load offensively but this team truly wins with their defense. The JV hockey team, led by coach Norman Blumenthal, is coming off a big shutout win at MTA, as Zach Levy had a hat trick and goalie Jonah Elzweig pitched a shutout in net. The varsity hockey team, coached by Mo Fuchs and Yak Apfelbaum is currently 4-0 after defeating Hillel, Ramaz, Kushner and SAR. Goalie Charles Gibber has been in the zone so far this season as he has shut down the opponent time after time. The first ice hockey game last week ended with a 10-2 win over SAR, while the wrestling team, who practices three times a week, has been dominant on the mat with victories over North Shore and MTA.

While TABC is proud of all the successes on the court, the school is even prouder of the midot displayed by our players. Sporting events at TABC have been electric this year as the fans and faculty in attendance cheer on their friends and students. TABC wants all students to feel part of the Storm team, and the energy in the gyms proves that that is the case.

TABC also takes great pride in their top-notch coaching staff. The dedication to their teams and players is unparalleled. TABC coaches go above and beyond the requirement of a yeshiva league coach and it shows in how much their players respect and admire them. Whether it be early Sunday mornings or late Thursday nights, the TABC gyms are filled with students practicing and working together as a team. Even the spring sports have gotten underway, as the soccer and baseball teams have had some light practice to get ready for their upcoming season.

In a few weeks, TABC will be raising banners to celebrate their championships from last year. Those championships are school-wide, for everyone to take part in. It is a celebration of the victory and success no doubt, but it truly is a celebration of the hard work that goes into a championship team—the parents who drive the carpools so the coach can get in an extra practice; the players who have long shifts and the players who hustle hard during practice to try and earn just a few extra minutes of game time; the incredible fans, faculty and rebbeim who come out and cheer after a win and give encouragement and perspective after a tough loss. These are the components of the TABC athletics program that makes the yeshiva proud.
