The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize Yeshivat Frisch senior Yehuda Farkas as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. Farkas has led the Frisch wrestling team in some capacity since his freshman year but has been a true leader this year. He capped his high school wrestling career by winning Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Henry Wittenberg Tournament two weeks ago.
Yehuda, congratulations on being recognized as this years Most Outstanding Wrestler at Wittenberg. Who are your role models and why?
My role models are my parents and coaches. Parents because they are always there for me, especially when I need it, and coaches because they shaped me into the man I am today.
What is your favorite sport?
My favorite sport is wrestling, of course.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
It would be this year’s Wittenberg by far. It felt amazing to finally win first after four years of hard work and dedication.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Michael Phelps. He is a man who pushed himself to win 28 medals in his sport.
What is your pregame routine, if you have one?
I like to jump around, drink something, mainly to get some adrenaline rushing.
What is your earliest sport memory?
Going to karate class.
What is your weirdest sports memory?
One time I was doing my moves so fast I overshot a move and completely missed my opponent.
What is your favorite sports memory?
This year in wrestling practice, my old coach from back when I was a freshman flew in from Israel and surprised the whole team for Wittenberg. That was a really fun practice.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not competing?
My hobbies include working out at Underground Training and hanging out with friends.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
The recognition of my work.
