Fordham University Plans Conference On Anti-Semitism And Sports

A global symposium discussing “Anti Semitism and Sports” will be offered by the School of Professional and Continual Studies of Fordham University in conjunction with the Chelsea Football Club and the New England Revolution’s Final Whistle on Hate campaign and its dean, Dr. Anthony Davidson, on Wednesday, September 25, at the McGinley Campus Center Rose Hill Campus, Bronx from 8:45 a.m.-5:00 p.m..

The program, the first of its kind, will be offered in conjunction with partners and supporters, including the ADL, USC Shoah Foundation, Hillels of Westchester, Chelsea Football Club, Maccabi USA and Jewish Sports Heritage Association Inc..

The welcome will be given by Dr. Davidson, who is an Orthodox Jew. Presenting in the morning will be Ken Jacobson, deputy national director of the Anti-Defamation League; Charlie Davies, New England Revolution club ambassador; Tibi Galis, executive director, Auschwitz Institute; Spencer Ross, sportscaster; Barry Wilner, sports writer; Grant Wahl, Sports Illustrated; Joe Bednarsh, athletic director, Yeshiva University; Jeff Bukantz, president, Maccabi USA; and Gedaliah Goodman, professional racehorse trainer.

Lunch will have an address by Stephen Smith, executive director, USC SHOAH Foundation.

The afternoon sessions will feature Ross Greenberg, former president of HBO and producer of the Marty Glickman Story; Bob Ahrens, retired sports producer of WFUV; Yael Averbush, executive director, National Women’s Soccer League; Vince Gennaro, associate dean, Tisch Institute for Sports and author of “Diamond Dollars: The Economics of Winning Baseball;” Boyd Melson, three time world military champion boxer; Michael Neuman, prize winner, CBS Million Dollar Mile; Howie Rumberg, global editor, Associated Press; Bruce Buck, chairman, Chelsea Football Club; Anna Isaacson, NFL first-ever senior vice president of social responsibility; Leigh Steinberg, sports agent; and Don Sperling, vice president/executive producer, New York Giants.

Closing remarks will be given by Ron Mix, NFL Hall of Fame offensive tackle.

Fordham’s Global Symposium on Sports and Society will unite some of the world’s most iconic names in athletics, academics and journalism to share a global perspective on the realities of anti Semtism, its interface with sports, and strategies for changing the playing field.
