Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Tamar Feldman

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 11-year-old Tamar Feldman as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The sixth grader at Yeshivat Noam (and daughter of a HANC Hurricane great) won the Hustle & Heart award for fifth and sixth grade at the Hustle & Heart Basketball Experience this summer. Hustle & Heart director Shana Steinmetz told the JLNJ, “She led her team to win the championship. Every player on her team continued to improve because of Tamar.”

Tamar, congratulations on winning the Hustle & Heart award. Who is your role model and why?

My role models are my parents because they support me, are my personal Uber drivers and support all of my craziness.

What is your favorite sport?

Ooh that’s a hard one but it’s a close tie between basketball and soccer.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

At Yom Nate this past summer, I won for my team and camp the trophy on a buzzer beater shot.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Shaquille O’Neal because he was an amazing player on defense and unstoppable on offense as long as it wasn’t a foul shot.

What is your pregame routine?

Hanging out with my teammates and getting pumped for the game.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Going to watch the 76ers basketball game in Philly while eating a hoagie and cheering them on!!!

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

Cooking, reading and spending time with my family and friends.

What is the weirdest thing you witnessed on the field?

MGBL in third grade. My coach told me to cheat up (get closer to a player) but I didn’t know what the term meant and thought he meant that I should cheat. I said I will not cheat and eventually went to my mom and his wife and I told them what had happened. His wife got up and stopped the game to tell him that it wasn’t right and he explained the term.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Being in the newspaper!

The Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week will receive a $15 gift at the Teaneck Doghouse. Please send nominees for an upcoming Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
