The Jewish Link of New Jersey and The RAIN on Water Event Space would like to recognize 9-year-old Hodaya Ciner as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The third grader at Yeshivat Noam was a key contributor for the MGBL 3/4 championship team, The Rothenberg Law Firm. Coach Fleischman told the JLNJ, “Hodaya is a fierce competitor and a defensive star. She hit a foul shot to tie the game with three seconds left in our first playoff game to extend our season and send the game to OT. And in the championship game, she hit two foul shots with 20 seconds left to seal the game.”
Hodaya, congratulations on the championship win. Who is your role model and why?
My Mom, because I know that she believes in me in everything I do and she was a great point guard at Bruriah.
What is your favorite sport?
Basketball, because I love playing with my teammates from Rothenberg Law Firm.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
Hitting my foul shots with three seconds left and helping my team get into the playoffs.
What is your earliest sports memory?
Watching Frisch win the championship.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
My sister Tiferet because she practices with me and is the best point guard I know.
What is your favorite sports memory?
Winning the MGBL championship with my team!
What is your pregame routine?
I put on my lucky red leggings.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
Art and going to Carvel after a win with my Dad.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
I never thought of myself as a Sportstar so I guess a new level of confidence!
