TABC Varsity Hockey Reach 11-0 at the Break

On January 7th, the Storm varsity hockey team traveled to Kushner to take on the 7-2-0-1 Cobras.

Both teams came out strong, exchanging chances during the 1st period. In the 2nd period, Yair Knoller opened the scoring, putting one past the Kushner goalie to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. Shortly thereafter, the Storm took a penalty and on the ensuing power play the Cobras tied the game up at 1.

Following some back and forth play and a great effort by Calev Minsky and Daniel Levy on another penalty kill, the Storm went on its first power play in the early portion of the 3rd period. Off a pass across by Ari Fuchs, Alex Malech buried a slap shot in the back of the net to give the storm a 2-1 lead. Alex Kalb played well in net and, along with the Storm defense, kept the Cobras off the board for the remainder of the game

On January 10th, the TABC Varsity hockey team hosted Frisch in the second of a double header. TABC won the JV game 2-1 and now it was up to the varsity team to continue the trend. TABC, playing its fifth game in two and a half weeks, was coming in at 10-0, while Frisch was coming in at 3-3-2-1.

The game started out fierce and competitive as the 1st period was back and forth, but when the clock hit zero it was still 0-0. In the 2nd, TABC took advantage of a power play when Ari Fuchs slid the ball across to Captain Alex Malech, who ripped one past the Frisch goalie. (Alex Malech now has a goal in each of the last four games.) Later in the period Daniel Levy made a beautiful pass in front of the net to Yair Knoller, who shelved it putting the Storm up 2-0 going into the second intermission.

The Frisch Cougars came out strong in the 3rd and both teams had chances during the first eight minutes of the final frame. Late in the period, the Cougars went on a power play of their own where they were able to cut the deficit to 1, however, the late heroics were just not there for the Cougars, who were constantly denied by TABC goaltender Rami Levine late in the game.

The match was one of the closer games that the varsity league has seen so far, but TABC came home with the win putting it at 11-0 going into the yeshiva break.
